Edinburgh Castle
Castlehill Edinburgh
EH1 2NG, UK
The XVIII iwCLL Welcome Reception is open to all iwCLL confirmed attendees and will be held on Friday, 20 September 2019 at 19:00. Edinburgh Castle is a world-famous icon of Scotland and recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O’ Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.
The Welcome Reception attire is casual and will take place mostly outdoors. Weather in Edinburgh in September can be chilly at night and rain/mist is often forecasted. Please keep this in mind when planning your attire.
All areas of the castle are accessed from a steep and curved central route that is about 350m long from entering the castle to the top level at Crown Square. As a reminder, the surface is cobblestone which can be uneven. It is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.
The Edinburgh Castle does provide an onsite mobility vehicle for visitors who are unable to manage the castles steep slopes. The car can take visitors from the esplanade (entrance of the castle) to the castles highest point and back down at the end of their visit.
